Trickey Pond

Trickey Pond: Clear Water and a Closer Look in Naples

Discover

Trickey Pond offers a Naples water outing whose clearness is a major part of its appeal. Begin at the public boat launch off Route 114, listed in Windham's official regional access guide at 711 Sebago Road. Choose the route and return for the day's conditions rather than measuring the visit by how much shoreline is covered.

Naples' 2026 planning inventory identifies the launch at the pond's southern end and describes unusually clear water. Its explanation connects the small watershed with likely groundwater feeding, where water has passed through the ground before reaching the pond. That is a reason to look closely at the water itself as well as the scenery around it.

An older state fisheries survey develops that hydrological story. Although revised in 1996, it remains a useful historical explanation of the pond's physical setting. It describes a natural outlet continuing to flow despite the small drainage area, suggesting active springs. The account places Trickey between larger neighboring lakes, with outlets leading toward Sebago.

Greg's original 2025 Traveling Angler account gives that background a visitor's perspective. Leaving from the southern ramp, he was struck by submerged stones, branches, and leaves visible beneath his kayak. Mist around the hills and the green of the shoreline trees gave the morning a different kind of scene above the surface.

His day also changed as activity increased. After fishing, he returned as boats were moving on the pond and other users were arriving at the launch. His account captures one morning's progression, with the quiet start and busier return belonging to the same visit. It does not establish what another day's traffic or parking will be.

A separate original account by Stan recalls a much less productive fishing session in March 2022. He caught one splake before rain brought the outing to an end. That limited result provides a useful counterpoint to expectations of instant success: repeated familiarity with a pond can include slow days as well as memorable catches.

The historical state survey also describes summer layering within the water and reduced oxygen at depth. Seen alongside the clarity, that explanation gives the pond another dimension. What can be seen from above is only one part of understanding a freshwater setting; the conditions below the surface have their own structure.

Care for the pond continues through local cooperation. The 2026 town inventory describes the Trickey Pond Environmental Protection Association supporting courtesy boat inspections and periodic invasive-plant surveys carried out with Lakes Environmental Association. A visitor can appreciate the clear view while recognizing that attention and maintenance help support the wider lake environment.

For a photograph, separate the subject into two possibilities: the visible detail below the surface and the broader scene above it. Choose a stable position appropriate to the activity, and let the available light decide which is clearer. The comparison can give a small record of the outing more character than a succession of similar views.

Trickey rewards curiosity and realistic expectations. Its public arrival, physical setting, and individual accounts provide several ways to approach a visit. Give the day one manageable focus, keep the return in view, and leave with an observation that makes the pond feel more familiar.

  1. Use the signed public Route 114 boat-launch approach.
  2. Plan for current conditions and the return.
  3. Historical fishing accounts do not establish present conditions.

Visitor perspectives

  1. Greg enjoys unusually clear underwater views during a kayak-fishing morning and notes a busier pond and launch on the return.
  2. Stan recalls a slow March 2022 fishing session, catching one splake before rain ended the outing.

Capture

  1. Compare visible underwater detail with the wider shoreline scene.
  2. Choose the subject that the available light explains most clearly.
